The Mel-Tones
The MelTones are a surf rock instrumental band, originally formed in Montreal, Canada.
The MelTones have recorded three albums and one compilation CD. Their songs can be heard in the animated TV series Spongebob Squarepants. They originally recorded as "Los Mel-Tones" and later changed the name to The MelTones.
They should not be confused with the Mel-Tones, Mel Tormé's vocal group from the 1940s, the Melotones, The Meltones, a fifties swing and rockabilly five/six piece out fit from Norfolk, England, or the bluegrass group with the same name.
The Mel-tones where formed in 1993 by guitarists Mel Waldorf and Chris Sanzo and drummer Jeff Halladay. In 1995, Mel moved to Montreal, and reformed the group with guitarist Stan Sawczyszyn, bassist Sandro Carrubba, and drummer Mark MacIsaac. The band released CDs Surfing At Black Point (1996) and Surf Before Sunrise (1997) before Mel moved to California in 1998.
Working with LoveCat Music, the Mel-tones have had songs appear in a number of television shows and movies, including Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, MTV's Made and Real World, Disney's My Favorite Martian, and 20th Century Fox’s Big Mamma's House 2.
In 2003, LoveCat Music released Surf Sensation, the best of The Mel-tones, including four unreleased tracks!
Now, ten years after the release of their first CD, The Mel-tones present SURF! SPY! SPACE!
